EXTERIOR

The bodywork on the KTM 390 ADVENTURE is not only designed to impress but also to provide a high level of performance and comfort during rides. Sporty graphics highlight the motorcycle’s rally DNA and clearly show that it’s ready for adventure.

BODYWORK: EXPLORE MORE AND LONGER

The KTM 390 ADVENTURE features distinctive adventure-style bodywork, providing excellent ergonomics and an aggressive look inspired by rally motorcycles. The tank fairings and rear side panels are slightly wider than the seat, ensuring good control while reducing seat wear. The fuel tank’s shape is optimized to give the rider freedom of movement and better control. The headlight surround is minimized as much as possible, drawing design cues from KTM’s rally bike generation to create a slim and lightweight front end. The low front fender aids aerodynamics and minimizes spray on the road, while a robust skid plate protects both the engine and exhaust system.

ERGONOMICS AND COMFORT

The KTM 390 ADVENTURE offers several additional options to enhance rider comfort, including higher or lower seat options and adjustable handlebar height. Drawing on lessons from KTM’s success in the Dakar Rally, its performance-oriented ergonomics were developed with a focus on comfort and control.

HANDLEBAR CONSOLE: DESIGNED FOR COMFORT AND CONTROL

The KTM 390 ADVENTURE is equipped with a high-quality tapered aluminum handlebar, ensuring a comfortable riding position and maximum control. On the left side, an easily accessible menu switch allows navigation of the TFT display and selection of various modes and connectivity functions. Simply scroll up and down through the menu, select the desired setting with the right button, or go back with the left.

SEAT: FIRM GRIP, SOFT EMBRACE

The two-part seat is designed for rider comfort and perfect control during long rides. The rider’s seat is positioned at a height of 858 mm, making it easy to plant feet on the ground. The seat material has a textured structure for grip and easy movement when needed, while the foam inside ensures comfort for the longest journeys. The seat is easily removable, providing access to the air filter and a small storage compartment.

FOOTPEGS: FULL CONTACT WITH THE MOTORCYCLE

Wide and robust footpegs, derived from off-road models, are designed for all-day riding, standing or sitting, in street or off-road boots. They feature rubber inserts for added comfort on street rides and are easily removable for better grip on off-road terrain.

WINDSHIELD: CRYSTAL CLEAR

The KTM 390 ADVENTURE’s windshield is an effective deflector. Its profile allows the rider to move freely on the bike and provides an unobstructed view ahead, even when covered in dirt. It can be set in a higher or lower position to suit the rider’s size or preferences. Two windshields of different lengths are available in the KTM PowerParts catalog.

CHASSIS

The KTM 390 ADVENTURE is a versatile travel motorcycle, well-balanced and purposeful. It offers super-agile and sporty handling on the street, as well as the ability to tackle challenging off-road terrain. Despite its large fuel tank, the body and seat design provide excellent ergonomics, freedom of movement, and comfort. It offers a low seat height while maintaining sufficient ground clearance. The sturdy, minimalist bodywork defines the motorcycle’s character and emphasizes its lineage.

FRAME

LIGHTWEIGHT AND ROBUST: Like the race-proven KTM 450 RALLY frame, the KTM 390 ADVENTURE features an ultra-light yet highly stable trellis frame. It exceeds all stability and handling requirements and forms the backbone of this agile adventurer. A forgiving balance of flex and rigidity, combined with a 1430 mm (+/- 15.5 mm) wheelbase and a 63.5-degree steering head angle, clearly points to off-road capability. This is also the foundation for its outstanding straight-line stability and precise, agile handling. SUBFRAME: The removable steel trellis subframe is bolted to the main frame with four screws. It is designed to be compact and lightweight yet strong enough to carry a passenger and luggage, while standing up to the harsh conditions expected during travel.

SWINGARM

The die-cast, open-lattice swingarm is a signature element of the KTM ADVENTURE lineup. It is manufactured with high precision and optimized rigidity while retaining excellent flex characteristics. The rear shock mounts directly to the swingarm, offering numerous benefits: fewer moving parts, a simpler design, increased durability, and better bike feel for the rider. The relatively long swingarm provides ample space for any suitable off-road tire.

SUSPENSION: READY FOR MORE

Drawing on KTM’s decades of experience in the toughest conditions, the KTM 390 ADVENTURE is equipped with the renowned and proven WP suspension. Fully adjustable WP APEX suspension front and rear perfectly complements the chassis, ensuring comfort, control, and freedom of movement on the most challenging roads.

FRONT FORK

The 43 mm WP APEX upside-down fork, originally developed for enduro, is a class leader in suspension. It features a spring on both sides, but each fork leg has a dedicated function: compression damping on the left and rebound damping on the right. This allows for easy adjustment via dials on the top of the forks. With high-quality materials and a modern manufacturing process, the 43 mm WP APEX fork with 170 mm of travel delivers outstanding rebound and compression damping performance.

TRIPLE CLAMP

The triple clamps are designed for a 63.5-degree steering head angle. Handlebar height can also be adjusted using various mounts available in the KTM PowerParts catalog.

SHOCK ABSORBER

The state-of-the-art WP APEX shock absorber is perfectly suited to the KTM 390 ADVENTURE’s versatile chassis. It provides 177 mm of travel, ideal for long-distance travel in challenging conditions. With adjustable spring preload and rebound damping, it can be fine-tuned for various situations, balancing typical KTM performance with all-day riding comfort.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE BRAKES

High-quality BYBRE brakes, with a large 320 mm front brake disc and a 230 mm rear disc, are perfectly matched to a radially mounted four-piston front caliper and a floating single-piston rear caliper, delivering an ideal balance of control and braking power. Additionally, a BOSCH two-channel ABS system ensures the highest safety standards in unpredictable and hazardous conditions.

FUEL TANK

The fuel tank is a central element of this daily adventurer’s design and engineering. Its shape provides excellent ergonomics, with a narrow knee-grip area for superior control, suitable even for taller riders. With an impressive 14.5-liter fuel capacity and exceptional fuel efficiency, it is designed for over 400 km of non-stop travel on a single tank.

ENGINE: TORQUE DELIVERS PURE POWER

The modern 373 cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine perfectly integrates this spirited motorcycle into KTM’s adventure world. Equipped with an electric starter, it delivers a peak power of 32 kW (43 hp) and an impressive 37 Nm of torque. Dual overhead camshafts, four valves, and electronic fuel injection are integral to the KTM 390 ADVENTURE’s outstanding power, while a balancer shaft ensures the highest level of smoothness. Its lightweight, compact design features straight air intake channels, reducing the distance for air entering the combustion chamber and for exhaust gases exiting to two catalytic converters. This not only allows for faster air and gas flow but also enables the engine to warm up more quickly. Additionally, the two catalytic converters and the fuel tank ventilation system (EVAP) improve emissions and prevent fuel vapor release, making the KTM 390 ADVENTURE highly eco-friendly and compliant with strict EU4 exhaust emission standards.

SLIPPER CLUTCH

The slipper clutch is a unique feature that saves energy and aids in gear changes. It opens when engine torque becomes too high, preventing annoying rear wheel chatter during hard braking or deceleration, and provides just enough braking force for controlled rear wheel slides. It also closes with the force of the clutch springs when the throttle is opened, allowing the clutch to be engaged with minimal effort, saving energy during rides.

PISTON

The 89 mm diameter piston features a DLC coating for added durability. It travels a 60 mm stroke, resulting in a 373.2 cc displacement and a 12.6:1 compression ratio. The cylinder head is cooled by an oil jet, while the piston uses a continuous, low-friction, nickel-coated aluminum wet liner with an open design.

EMS / RIDE-BY-WIRE THROTTLE

The 390 ADVENTURE features an advanced engine management system with a state-of-the-art electronic fuel injection system and a 46 mm throttle body. Instead of a traditional cable-operated throttle, the KTM 390 ADVENTURE uses a ride-by-wire system. Electronic sensors translate the throttle grip’s rotation to activate the throttle valve via a servo motor. This electronically converts the rider’s throttle commands into the optimal throttle position for the riding situation, ensuring the most linear power delivery.

CYLINDER HEAD

Advanced DOHC (dual overhead camshaft) technology: The four valves in the KTM 390 ADVENTURE’s cylinder head are actuated via robust finger followers by two overhead camshafts. This design, favored by many off-road models, including the successful KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE, is renowned for its exceptional reliability. It also offers low friction thanks to an ultra-hard DLC coating on the finger followers—a solution that makes this engine highly reliable even during prolonged high-RPM operation.

GEARBOX

The KTM 390 ADVENTURE is equipped with a reliable, proven six-speed gearbox. The gear ratios are perfectly matched to the 390 cc engine’s power range, allowing smooth selection of the ideal gear for leisurely street rides or serious off-road treks.

EXHAUST SYSTEM: SWEET, CLEAN ENGINE NOTES

The KTM 390 ADVENTURE features a lightweight, precisely crafted exhaust system consisting of a stainless steel header pipe, a vibration-absorbing resonator, and a sleek muffler. The muffler, shaped as a compact and lightweight aluminum sleeve, is positioned close to the motorcycle’s overall center of gravity to improve balance and handling. It ensures instant, smooth performance and is designed not to hinder the motorcycle’s acceleration. Two catalytic converters, integrated into the header pipe and resonator, effectively reduce exhaust emissions to Euro 4 levels.

KTM develops electronic aids for riders that provide greater control and better performance for riders of all skill levels, aiming to enhance enjoyment in any condition.

MTC

MTC (Motorcycle Traction Control) is a lean-angle-sensitive traction control system that instantly responds when the rear wheel’s rotational speed becomes disproportionate to the riding situation. Within milliseconds, MTC reduces engine power via an extremely smooth, barely noticeable intervention in the throttle valves until slip is reduced to optimal levels for the selected ride mode and current lean angle.

OFFROAD ABS

ADVENTURE means long-distance travel and venturing into the unknown, so it’s critical to have a bike that supports you in extreme situations. Standard ABS is designed for street use, so an off-road ABS function was added to enhance braking control in off-road conditions. In this mode, ABS on the rear wheel is disabled, and front wheel ABS activation is reduced. This allows riders to lock the rear wheel, enabling them to steer the rear end into corners. It also prevents over-regulated front wheel braking or excessive front brake pressure, providing better braking capability in dirt.

ABS

KTM’s cornering ABS allows riders to fully utilize their brakes while the system adjusts brake pressure based on the motorcycle’s lean angle for safer, more predictable braking across a wider range of conditions and scenarios. It can be disabled for off-road use.

KTM MY RIDE

With the KTM MY RIDE system, a smartphone can be paired with the bike, allowing you to make phone calls, listen to music, and use an optional turn-by-turn navigation app, all while continuing your adventure.
